Document delivery address: Documents addressed to the Ministry of Justice can be delivered to the Government mail distribution centre, address: Ritarikatu 2 B, Helsinki (open Monday to Friday at 8.00–16.15).

If you wish to initiate a matter at the Ministry of Justice, please deliver the pertinent document to the registry of the Ministry. The registry forwards the document to appropriate ministry officials for processing.

The Ministry keeps a document register of the matters that it has processed and in which it has issued a decision.

Requests for access to a document

Citizens have the right of access to official documents in the public domain. A request for access to a document must be sufficiently detailed so that the Ministry can determine which document the request concerns.

The Ministry’s documents that are in the public domain may be viewed at the Ministry by appointment.

Submission of documents and retrieval of information may be subject to a charge as provided in section 34 of the Act on the Openness of Government Activities.

Archives

The archives of the Ministry of Justice contain documents dating from 1989 onwards. The availability of materials older than this may be inquired at the National Archives of Finland.
