Päivi Paasikoski appointed Director of Government Communications

On Thursday 7 October, the Government appointed Päivi Paasikoski, Master of Social Sciences, as Director General of the Government Communications Department at the Prime Minister’s Office. Paasikoski will take up her post as Director General on 8 October. Her term of office will be five years. The title of Director General of the Government Communications Department is an honorary title for the Director of Government Communications.

Paasikoski has more than 30 years of experience in government communications tasks at the Prime Minister’s Office. She has served as Acting Director General of Communications since June 2021, and previously served as Deputy Director of Government Communications since 2018. Paasikoski first began working at the Prime Minister’s Office in 1987 as Communications Coordinator. She subsequently served as Communications Officer, Deputy Information Officer, Chief Information Officer and Head of Communications. From 1986 to 1987, she served as Information Officer in Parliament and at the Ministry of Justice. 

The Director of Government Communications is head of the Government Communications Department. The Department is responsible for the Government’s joint communications led by the Prime Minister. It coordinates the ministries’ external communications, develops and harmonises the central government’s external communications and is responsible for developing and coordinating the joint external web service used by the Government and its ministries.
