Minister Henriksson to visit committees of the European Parliament

The Finnish Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson will present the priorities for Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union before the European Parliament in Brussels this week. Minister Henriksson will visit the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) on Tuesday 3 September and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) on Wednesday 4 September.

The Finnish Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson will present the priorities for Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union before the European Parliament in Brussels this week. Minister Henriksson will visit the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) on Tuesday 3 September and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) on Wednesday 4 September. She will present the priorities for Finland’s Presidency in the field of justice affairs and have an exchange of views with members of the committees. The exchange of views on Wednesday will also be attended by Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo.

The justice affairs priorities for Finland’s Presidency are to strengthen common values and the rule of law and to protect the security of citizens comprehensively and increase their trust in society by developing the EU Member States’ judicial cooperation in criminal matters and by strengthening consumer rights in the single market.

Minister Henriksson’s committee appearances are part of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. At the beginning of each presidency, it is customary for ministers of the country holding the Council presidency to visit the European Parliament for an exchange of views. The committees may also ask the ministers for their views about topical issues as part of the exchange of views.

Finland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 July to 31 December 2019.
