Pekka Timonen appointed as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice

The Government has appointed Pekka Timonen, Doctor of Law, as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice for a five-year term starting on 1 June 2018.

At the moment, Pekka Timonen acts as Director General of the Employment and Well-Functioning Markets Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. He has also served a five-year term as Director General of the Working Life and Markets Department. Before that he was Director General of the Ownership Steering Department of the Prime Minister's Office. Pekka Timonen has also held research and teaching positions in the University of Helsinki.

The post of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice became vacant when the previous Permanent Secretary Asko Välimaa become a member of the Supreme Court in early April.

A total of 11 candidates applied for the post.
