Raija Toiviainen proposed as Prosecutor General

The Government proposes that the President of the Republic appoint Deputy Prosecutor General Raija Toiviainen, Master of Laws, as Prosecutor General as of 1 August 2018.

Toiviainen has served as Deputy Prosecutor General and as temporary Prosecutor General in 2017 and 2018.

She started at the Office of the Prosecutor General in 1997 and has since served as State Prosecutor and Head of the International Unit. Toiviainen was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General in 2016. She has prior experience of District Judge’s duties and of duties at the Ministry of Justice.

The position of the Prosecutor General became vacant when the Government dismissed the previous Prosecutor General in January 2018.

The President of the Republic will decide on the appointment at the presidential session today, on Friday 13 July.
