Finnish democracy is built on the rule of law. The Ministry of Justice is responsible for ensuring that the rule of law is observed in Finland.

Constitution
In Finland, the Constitution lays the foundation for all legislation and exercise of public authority. We are responsible for the high-quality drafting of fundamental legislation, such as acts concerning fundamental rights and legal protection.

Crime and punishment
The Ministry of Justice is responsible for drafting the Criminal Code and the legislation concerning the enforcement of punishments. Punishments are at the core of the criminal sanctions system.
