In recent years, household financial problems, payment defaults and indebtedness have increased in Finland. This has raised concern about whether Finns have sufficient skills to make economically sustainable decisions. In accordance with the Government Programme, several ministries will launch measures to reduce over-indebtedness and improve the ability of citizens to manage their personal finances. Furthermore, the Bank of Finland is now launching a project for the coordination of activities to improve national financial literacy.
The current state of children’s participation rights in Finland has been assessed in a pilot project coordinated by the Ministry of Justice. The key findings of the assessment report to be published in February were presented today at the final seminar of the project in Helsinki.
Minister of Justice Henriksson to attend informal ministerial meeting on justice and home affairs in Zagreb
The EU ministers of justice and home affairs will meet for an informal ministerial meeting organised by the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU in Zagreb on 23–24 January. In legal matters, Finland will be represented by Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson.
The Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption will be held in Abu Dhabi on 16–20 December 2019. Finland’s representative at the conference is Malin Brännkärr, State Secretary to the Minister of Justice.
