Information about the municipal elections is given on the election site of the Ministry of Justice www.vaalit.fi in 13 languages. Basic information about the right to vote, eligibility, nomination of candidates and voting is available in Finnish and Swedish, but also in English, Estonian, Russian, Somali, German, Chinese, Thai, Turkish, Arabic, Spanish and French.

In previous municipal elections information has been given in Finnish, Swedish and English. Now information is available in ten new languages.

The Population Register Centre in Finland has sent an information letter concerning the municipal elections 2008 to those around 98 000 foreigners living in Finland who are entitled to vote in the elections. The letter includes information in six languages (Finnish, Swedish, English, Estonian, Russian and Somali).

In municipal elections Finnish citizens as well as foreigners with permanent residence in Finland who will reach the age of 18 years no later than on the election day are entitled to vote. However, to be entitled to vote citizens of other countries than the Member States of the European Union or the Nordic countries must have had a municipality of residence in Finland for a minimum of two years.
