Requests for access to a document
Citizens have the right of access to official documents in the public domain. A request for access to a document must be sufficiently detailed so that the Ministry can determine which document the request concerns.
The Ministry’s documents that are in the public domain may be viewed at the Ministry by appointment.
Submission of documents and retrieval of information may be subject to a charge as provided in section 34 of the Act on the Openness of Government Activities.
The archives of the Ministry of Justice contain documents dating from 1989 onwards. The availability of materials older than this may be inquired at the National Archives of Finland.
Information on the projects, bodies and working groups appointed by the Ministry of Justice is available at the Gateway to Information on Government Projects (www.valtioneuvosto.fi/hankkeet, in Finnish).
