Advisory Board on Civil Society Policy (KANE)

The Advisory Board on Civil Society Policy (KANE), set by the Government for a four-year term at a time, operates in connection with the Ministry of Justice. KANE's third term ended on 8 February 2021 and the fourth term is currently under preparation. 

KANE's tasks include promoting the interaction between administration and civil society and enhancing the operating conditions for civil society. The advisory board consists of representatives of civil society, research, business sector, ministries and other public agencies.

Application to the Advisory Board on Civil Society Policy for the term 2021-2025 has been opened

The Ministry of Justice has opened the application process for actors representing civil society and its research to the Advisory Board on Civil Society Policy. The application was open from 1 June to 20 August 2021 and a supplementary application is open from 1 to 14 September 2021.

The advisory board will now be appointed for the fourth four-year term 2021–2025. Use this form to apply for membership (in Finnish).

Registered associations in the sectors specified in the Decree on KANE are eligible to apply for membership. Furthermore, parties representing free civic activities and civil society research may also apply for membership of the advisory board. At the same time, the Ministry of Justice sends a request to the ministries and the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities for them to appoint their candidates as members of KANE.

When the application period ends, the Ministry of Justice will evaluate the applications and submit a proposal to the Government on setting up a new Advisory Board on Civil Society Policy in autumn 2021.
