The EU ministers of justice and home affairs will meet for an informal ministerial meeting organised by the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU in Zagreb on 23–24 January. In legal matters, Finland will be represented by Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson.

Topics on the agenda for the meeting include the future of the EU area of freedom, security and justice.

“I have been very pleased to see Croatia advancing the debate on the future of justice and home affairs and highlighting common values, which played an important role during the Finnish Presidency. Action to strengthen the rule of law, to implement the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and to combat hate speech and corruption must be pursued with determination, Henriksson says.

The meeting will also address issues that are important for the practical functioning of the judicial sector, such as strengthening EU competence in the field of justice and facilitating cooperation with the European Network in civil and commercial matters. Henriksson will also meet with German Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht in connection with the meeting.
