EU and US justice ministers to discuss judicial cooperation and sustainability of electoral processes

A meeting between the justice and home affairs ministers of the European Union and of the United States will take place in Washington D.C. on 11 December 2019. The ministerial meeting will address EU-US collaboration projects. The EU will be represented by Minister of Justice Anna-Maja Henriksson from Finland that currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The ministers will discuss judicial cooperation in the internet space, including cross-border access to electronic evidence and the challenges posed by encryption in the taking of evidence. They will also explore how to develop the sustainability of electoral processes and how to continue the electoral dialogue at expert level between the EU and the US.

In the margins of the ministerial meeting, Minister Henriksson will meet with the US attorney general William Barr. The European Union will moreover be represented by the European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders and the justice and home ministers of Croatia that will assume the Presidency of the Council of the EU in January 2020.
