Press release

Minister of Justice Antti Häkkänen will meet Romania's Minister of Justice Tudorel Toader and Croatia's Minister of Justice Dražen Bošnjaković in Helsinki on Wednesday, 22 August. The meeting is related to the cooperation between the three countries during their upcoming presidencies of the Council of the European Union.

Romania, Finland and Croatia constitute a ‘presidency trio’ for the 18-month period from 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2020. This mechanism of coordination over a longer period of time aims at increasing the continuity of the Council’s work.  Finland will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union from July to December 2019 between the Romanian and Croatian presidencies.

The meeting to be held in Helsinki is the first one between the Ministers of Justice of the three countries. The Ministers of Justice will discuss the status of preparations for the EU presidency in each country. Furthermore, the Ministers intend to agree on future close cooperation.
